Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday- the day we celebrate when the time came for Jesus to ride into Jerusalem on a donkey while people waved palm branches, laid cloaks on the road and shouted "hosanna".

The Donkey- We must trust God's Word

Everything was just as God told Zechariah (Zechariah 9:9) it would be hundreds of years before Jesus actually entered Jerusalem.
Jesus told his disciples they were to go into the town and they would find a donkey tied to a door and the disciples found a donkey just as Jesus said.

The Palm Branches- We must see Jesus as the King...He is above all things.

Palm branches were the national symbol of Israel. In essence it was like them waving the stars and stripes of the American Flag. By doing this they were showing that they believed Jesus is the King. Jesus is the King but He did not come to knock over the government and say that we are not supposed to listen to those in authority but He is over all things...government, circumstances, problems, people, etc. and we can trust Him.
Also, palm branches were used to make the booths for festivals and such. The people used them to celebrate with.

The Cloaks- We must honor Jesus with all that we have been given.

The people put their cloaks that they had made with their own hands to wear on the ground for the donkey to ride upon. Culture said that important people must walk upon covered ground. It is like the RED CARPET for MOVIE STARS or precious runner rugs for ROYALTY to walk upon. They saw Jesus as their long awaited King...the MESSIAH..and wanted to honor him!

The "Hosanna" Shout- We must Hope in Jesus

"Hosanna" was a Hebrew prayer saying, "Lord, save us!". When the people shouted this they were proclaiming that they needed help and they knew Jesus could and would help them. When they saw Jesus ride through Jerusalem they saw hope. When we know Jesus, we know HOPE.
...AND we praise God for His son Jesus and the HOPE we have in Him!!!

memory verse- "Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!!!" Mark 11:9

I Will Worship God in the Good Times and the Bad Times

It is easy to worship God when you look around and see all of the GREAT things God is doing! ...but what happens when you look around and you see saddness and devastation?

Do you still worship God or do you give up?

What happens if I go to great effort to make scrumdiddliumcious CHOCOLATE cupcakes with yummy CHOCOLATE frosting but forget the CHOCOLATEfrosting at home? Do I throw out the CHOCOLATE cupcakes and forget about such a delicious treat? Absolutely not!!! We would say that is a waste!!!

So it is when we face disappointing or discouraging times in life. We don't just stop worshipping God because some things in life get tough...we work through it and WORSHIP GOD!

Remember Job? He had everything taken from him, including his health but he continued to worship God and in the end God gave him more than he had before! God rewards those who diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6).

So... I will worship God in the good times and the bad times!

memory verse: Praise the Lord; praise God our savior! For each day he carries us in his arms. Psalm 68:19

I Will Worship God When I Obey

This week we talked about the CALL OF ABRAM (who became Abraham). Abram worshipped God as he OBEYED God. When he obeyed God he showed his love and trust toward God. He did not know every detail but he knew what God told him to do and did it! What did God ask Abram to do? That's right...God told Abram to pack up everything and move and God would tell him where to go along the way. What has God asked you to do? Will you obey God? I hope so!

The decision is up to you...but when we obey God we worship God!
Obedience leads us toward God.
Disobedience leads us toward the Devil.
memory verse: "When you obey my commandements, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father's commandments and remain in his love." John 15:10

Pastor Randy Visits

Pastor Randy Thompson visited us this week to share with us about ministry in Lithuania. GOkids gave some money for Pastor Randy to go to Lithuania this past Fall and many kids came to know Jesus and leaders were trained to teach the kids!
Until 2 years ago the church in Lithuania did NOT believe that kids could decide to live for Jesus. They would send their kids outside to play during church services until they were older. These kids didn't have anything like GOkids because the adults didn't think that the kids could make a decision to live for Jesus so the adults thought the kids didn't need to know about Jesus.

Suicide is a term used when people take their own life or kill them self. Lithuania has the highest suicide rate in all of the world. The biggest percent of people who commit suicide are between the ages of 8 and 12! There is so much pressure on the kids. If they do not get an A+ in school, the kids are often beaten by drunken parents and sometimes turned away to the streets. Since the kids did not have a place to go for love and support from the church they did not have HOPE.
I was thrilled to hear about Pastor Randy and some other children's pastors went to Lithuania to tell these kids about Jesus and bring them HOPE. I was even more thrilled to hear that they took time to train leaders to teach the kids of Lithuania about Jesus. Pastor Randy's team set up kids ministries in several spots so that kids have a place like GOkids to be loved, encouraged and receive HOPE!

Pray...Give...Go
1. Pray for the church leaders and kids in Lithuania that they will continue to grow in their knowledge of God's word.
Pray for the kids who have not YET heard the HOPE of Jesus.
Pray for creative ideas for the church to reach the hurting.
2. Give money to BGMC
As you pray ask God, "How much should I give?"
Remember the story Pastor Randy told about the boy who gave his $150 of his birthday money because he had everything he already needed or the other boy who raised $1000 for kids overseas? YOU can give too!!!
3. Go and tell your friends about the HOPE you have in Jesus!!!

I Worship God When I Give

We just finished our POPOUT for MISSIONS, where we held back drinking "pop" and saved that money for missions. Over 25 kids participated...GOkids!!! That money will go to help children ALL around the world to hear about JESUS and how He LOVES them!!!
This week we talked about how the EARLY CHURCH in the book of ACTS shared everything they had. When we give it is showing God that we love him... we are worshipping God!
One thing we talked about is making Homeless Kits to keep in our car to be ready to give at all times.

The kit we made had:
Bible
Snacks (canned chicken, vienna sausages, breakfast bars, ect)
Toothbrush/Toothpaste
Kleenex
Face Wipes
Band-Aids
Soap
Washcloths
Lotion
There are so many others things you may include!!!

This week put a Homeless Kit together with your family to carry in your car so that when you see someone to GIVE to, you are READY!
memory verse: " The wicked borrow and never repay but the godly are generous givers."
Psalm 27:21
