I Will Use My Words To Help Others!

Have you ever said something to someone and wished that you would have said nothing at all? Have you ever wished that you would have just taken a moment to think about what your were going to say before saying it? Have you ever hurt someone with your words and later horrible about it? Well, you feel horrible because it was the wrong thing to do. You need to remember that God forgives us...just ask. Once you realize what you've done wrong then correct it and move along!

Our words are very powerful (James 3:3-12) and may be used to be harmful or helpful. Once the words are out of the mouth they can not be put back into the mouth so we must be cautious with our words.

Sunday we learned about Moses' father-in-law, Jethro. (Genesis 18) Jethro walked up on a chaotic situation and knew how to correct it but he thought before he spoke. Instead of yelling at Moses and telling him that Moses didn't know what in the world he was doing, Jethro talked with Moses and gave him a wise plan to build leadership. Were Jethro's words helpful or harmful? They were helpful words! Helpful words bring about resolution and peace. Hurtful words stir up arguments and anger.

Here are some ways to develop Helpful Word Usage:

1. Start your morning by praying: Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my mind be pleasing to your O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

2. Think before you you speak.

3. Use helpful words

memory verse: Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my mind be pleasing to you O Lord my Rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14
