I WIll Listen And Do What It Says

James 1:19-25 talks about the importance of not just listening to or reading God's Word but doing what it says! This pleases God and helps us to walk in God's perfect plan for our life.

King Josiah did just this. In a time when all of his people had forgotten the law of God and His promises, Josiah remembered. While repairing and cleaning the temple he discovered some scrolls -which scholars believe to be the Pentateuch. Do you remember which 5 books of the Bible make up the Pentateuch?

His heart was saddened because no one was following the law. Josiah began to lead in obedience to the law getting rid of anything and everything that was disobeying. He did not just listen or read the law but obeyed it.

We need to listen to and read God's Word to remind ourselves how to live a life pleasing to God then we must obey the Word!

Step One: Are you reading or listening to God's Word everyday?

Step Two: Do what it says!

memory verse: "All scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. " 2 Timothy 3:16

To The Depths Race

I Will Use My Words To Help Others!

Have you ever said something to someone and wished that you would have said nothing at all? Have you ever wished that you would have just taken a moment to think about what your were going to say before saying it? Have you ever hurt someone with your words and later horrible about it? Well, you feel horrible because it was the wrong thing to do. You need to remember that God forgives us...just ask. Once you realize what you've done wrong then correct it and move along!

Our words are very powerful (James 3:3-12) and may be used to be harmful or helpful. Once the words are out of the mouth they can not be put back into the mouth so we must be cautious with our words.

Sunday we learned about Moses' father-in-law, Jethro. (Genesis 18) Jethro walked up on a chaotic situation and knew how to correct it but he thought before he spoke. Instead of yelling at Moses and telling him that Moses didn't know what in the world he was doing, Jethro talked with Moses and gave him a wise plan to build leadership. Were Jethro's words helpful or harmful? They were helpful words! Helpful words bring about resolution and peace. Hurtful words stir up arguments and anger.

Here are some ways to develop Helpful Word Usage:

1. Start your morning by praying: Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my mind be pleasing to your O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

2. Think before you you speak.

3. Use helpful words

When I Honor My Mother, I Honor God

I certainly hope all of you treated your mothers or your female caregivers extra special this weekend! It is wonderful to have a special day to honor them but according to God's word we are to honor them everyday! (Exodus 20:12 and Ephesians 6:1).
This weekend we learned about a mother who listened to and obeyed God. In reward her son also listened to and obeyed God. The mother's name was Hannah. She could not have children and she wanted to have to children more than anything in the world. Until she listened and gave her desire to God she remained empty inside. When she listened to and obeyed God, He fulfilled the desire of her heart and gave to her a son. She named him, "Samuel, saying I asked of God".
Before Smauel came, Hannah made a promise to God that she would give her son back to God's purpose. She was faithful to keep that promise and God used Samuel to be speak for Him and choose great leaders for Israel. God also blessed Hannah with several other children.
What a beautiful example of a mother. We all have wonderful mothers but with busy, crazy lives it is not always easy to listen and obey God. We can honor our mothers by praying for them to listen and obey God, Obey them and Help them with chores or other responsibilities.
And when we honor our mothers, we honor God!

I will do the right thing, not just talk about it!

This past week we talked about a lady in the Bible who did not just say she would be faithful but she was faithful. Her name is Ruth! When Ruth's husband died she told her mother-in-law "your God will be my God...your people my people and your land my land." . Ruth ended up moving to a land she had never been to and to people she did not know. She worked hard to provide for her mother-in-law and herself. Even when it wasn't easy she remained faithful to do what she had said would do!
You see her good deeds were carried out by her faith! The two fit like a "hand in glove" and help us to accomplish the work that God has set out for us!
So, how do we make sure that out faith and good deeds are working together?
Step 1: DO the right thing and DON'T just talk about it!

This past weekend some GOkids didn't just talk about serving but they served the residents at Nash Rehab! I was so proud of them!!!

memory verse: "So you see, faith by itself isn'tenough. Unless it produces good deed it is deal and useless!" James 2:17
