The Holy Spirit Empowers Me

This past week Larissa and Justin could have gotten into BIG trouble had Larissa not let Justin take over the wheel! Larissa was super tired but knew that she had to make it as far as possible . She began to fall asleep and swirve off the road until her friend offered to drive. At first Larissa did not want Justin to take the wheel but as Justin took over Larissa discovered that they were able to go much farther than they would have if Larissa continued to drive on her own.
God loved us sooo much that He not only sent His son to save us but He left His Holy Spirit to empower us!
The Holy Spirit is for EVERYONE (Acts 2 :39) and fills us up to be a witness for God. As we are filled up and overflow onto others they are affected by the Holy Spirit!!! The symbol to show someone is overflowing in the Holy Spirit is "speaking in tongues". This happened at the very first outpouring of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4-6) and several other times in the book of Acts.
Our job is to "yield" to God just as a car yields to the oncoming traffic. We say, "God do what you want in my life!". He fills us up to overflowing with His Holy Spirit to empower us so that we are witnesses of Him in our life!!!

memory verse: But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you and you will be my witnesses... Acts 1:8

God is my Healer

Life is full surprises...some good and some not so good!
While broken down along the road we met a fixer who told us about the healer and fixer of our bodies and heart. God is the healer and the fixer! God holds all power and because of Jesus dying on the cross we have healing!
If we are sick we are supposed to go to people of the church and have them pray for us (James 5:14-16). This healing is available to ALL who will ask and believe. Psalm 103:2,3 says, " Praise the Lord, O my coul, and forget not all his benefits- who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases.". Nothing is too big or too small for God; afterall He created our bodies and our hearts.
Just as Pastor Larissa and Miss Justin were able to trust Gus the Mechanic to fix their car because he worked on cars all of the time and even built some of his own- we can trust GOD!
God is my Healer
memory verse: "...I am the Lord who heals you." Exodus 15:25

I Will Remember What God Has Done For Me

Let's play a Road Trip Game! I'll name a shape or color and you name something it makes you think of. Ready...Set...Go
1. Round
2. Green
3. Triangle
4. Yellow
5. Red
Were you able to think of things that reminded you of the colors or shapes? I hope so.
Jesus left is 2 things that we were supposed to do to remind us of what God has done for us:
1. Water baptism
-symbolizes we are dead to sin and alive in Jesus
- Jesus was baptized as an example for us
- Immersion: to go completely under the water
2. Communion
- symbolizes Jesus' body and blood that was shed on the cross for our sins
- Jesus asked us to take communion in remembrance of Him until He returns
- examine our hearts before communion to take with a pure and grateful heart
These two "things" are called the "Ordinances of the Church".
We are to keep them so that we remember what God has done for us.
They do not "save" us but are a symbol of what God has done for us and in us!
BONUS: Write down the things God does for you so you will always remember what God has done for you!
memory verse: I will remember the deeds of the Lord. I will remember the miracles of long ago. Psalms 77:11

Jesus' Story Transforms My Story

North Carolina...Nashville, TN...Arkansas!!!

Here we are in Eureka Springs, Arkansas!

This is one of the 3 largest Jesus Statues in the ENTIRE world! After sightseeing we had a little "sit-down" where we talked about the story of Jesus.
Jesus is God's Son.
God sent His son to die for our sins.
Jesus had to die because the was the "ransom" price to be paid to get us back from sin...because sin has kidnapped us!
God has an amazing story written for our lives...including being bought back from our kidnapper...but we have to choose for God to write our story.
We do this by saying,
"God, I realize sin has kidnapped me. I believe you sent your son to die for me to pay the price because you love me. I accept that. Forgive me of all of my wrongs and help me to live for you."

memory verse: Do not be afraid for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. Isaiah 43:1

One God - Three Persons

It has been quite the Road Trip so far! It's hard to believe that just last week we started out from good old North Carolina heading to
Cali-forn-i-a!!!
Thank goodness that we discovered right away that God's Word as our GPS because...

GOD'S WORD WILL LEAD US IN
THE RIGHT DIRECTION!
This week we took a little pit stop in Nashville, TN where we went shopping, visted a few historical sites and hung out at the Diner for a bit. At the Diner we learned a little more about God.
- God is eternal: He has no beginning and no ending because He is the Alpha and Omega (the Beginnning and the End)

- God is the ONE true God

- God is in THREE PERSONS: All the Same God in 3 parts or forms like the 3 parts of an egg makes a whole or 3 forms of water (ice, water, and condensation) but it is still water!

God the Father- the Planner and Creator of the Universe

God the Son- the Savior of the World and Intercessor to the Father

God the Holy Spirit- the Teacher, Counselor and Comforter

All in all GOD IS ALL WE NEED!

it was once said that when ALL that you have is God that is ALL that you need!

memory verse: May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. 2 Corinthians 13:14

I Can Look Forward to Heaven Because Jesus Forgives Me!

What are you looking forward to? Vacation?... Your Birthday?....Camp?...Allowance?...
There are alot of things we look forward to in life but HEAVEN is the ultimate thing that we have to look forward to!!! It's going to be an AWESOME place where the fun will never end! Far brighter and more beautiful than any place we have ever seen. All of our loved ones who know Jesus will be there! There will be NO crying...NO pain...NO sorrow...NO parting!!!( Revelation 21:4) Nothing will ever be destroyed there. We will worship God and see HIM face to face!!!

I can hardly wait!!!

We learned that when we look forward to something we ANTICIPATE. Therefore we ANTICIPATE Heaven because Jesus died on a cross to forgive our sins.
When we went to the depths of James we discovered that James 1:12 said that after we had persevered through trails we will receive the CROWN OF LIFE!!!
Persevere means that we press through...
Trials are the hard things that sometimes come our way...
Jesus will give us the CROWN OF LIFE in Heaven!!!
memory verse: For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

I Will Give My Best To God

Who would love to receive someone else's leftovers from Tokyo Express? Not very many people...and if anyone actually received the leftovers it would be a far cry to say that they thoroughly enjoyed them!
Just as much as we do not enjoy even the thought of chewing on someone else's leftovers God does not enjoy our half-hearted giving! He wants us to give our best.
In Luke 21 a widow gained Jesus' attention as she gave ALL that she had...She gave her BEST! Others were giving but they were giving only their extra and most were not giving cheerfully.
Look for opportunities to give this week and remember when we give we are giving as unto the Lord!!!
And just remember that God can do the UNIMAGINABLE with what we give to Him!

I Will Never Stop Praying!

True or False. We can pray to God about anything.
Absolutely TRUE! We need to take advantage of the God who loves to hear from us...
when we are happy,
when we sad,
when we are busy,
when we are bored,
when we are doing well,
when we are sick,
when are bad...
anytime, anywhere about anything!
King Asa began his time of ruling with praying to God and God went before him and conquered the enemy. Then Asa began to think that he had better plans than God so he stopped praying to God. It started out ok but things went down hill. A prophet spoke to King Asa telling him that he should turn to God and ask God for help but Asa was too prideful and did not want to. Sadly, King Asa died in sickness still not praying to God.
God has greater plans than we have for ourselves. We must pray to Him to know what to do and how to live.

memory verse: Never stop praying. 1 Thessalonians 5:17

I WIll Listen And Do What It Says

James 1:19-25 talks about the importance of not just listening to or reading God's Word but doing what it says! This pleases God and helps us to walk in God's perfect plan for our life.

King Josiah did just this. In a time when all of his people had forgotten the law of God and His promises, Josiah remembered. While repairing and cleaning the temple he discovered some scrolls -which scholars believe to be the Pentateuch. Do you remember which 5 books of the Bible make up the Pentateuch?

His heart was saddened because no one was following the law. Josiah began to lead in obedience to the law getting rid of anything and everything that was disobeying. He did not just listen or read the law but obeyed it.

We need to listen to and read God's Word to remind ourselves how to live a life pleasing to God then we must obey the Word!

Step One: Are you reading or listening to God's Word everyday?

Step Two: Do what it says!

memory verse: "All scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. " 2 Timothy 3:16

To The Depths Race

I Will Use My Words To Help Others!

Have you ever said something to someone and wished that you would have said nothing at all? Have you ever wished that you would have just taken a moment to think about what your were going to say before saying it? Have you ever hurt someone with your words and later horrible about it? Well, you feel horrible because it was the wrong thing to do. You need to remember that God forgives us...just ask. Once you realize what you've done wrong then correct it and move along!

Our words are very powerful (James 3:3-12) and may be used to be harmful or helpful. Once the words are out of the mouth they can not be put back into the mouth so we must be cautious with our words.

Sunday we learned about Moses' father-in-law, Jethro. (Genesis 18) Jethro walked up on a chaotic situation and knew how to correct it but he thought before he spoke. Instead of yelling at Moses and telling him that Moses didn't know what in the world he was doing, Jethro talked with Moses and gave him a wise plan to build leadership. Were Jethro's words helpful or harmful? They were helpful words! Helpful words bring about resolution and peace. Hurtful words stir up arguments and anger.

Here are some ways to develop Helpful Word Usage:

1. Start your morning by praying: Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my mind be pleasing to your O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

2. Think before you you speak.

3. Use helpful words

memory verse: Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my mind be pleasing to you O Lord my Rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14
